Summertime means fun in the sun and vacations. But spending time elsewhere doesn’t mean you have to skip your haircare routine. This article will cover tips and tricks for keeping your hair looking great wherever you travel.

Travel Bottles for Hair Product

Often, hotel shampoos and conditioners are not as good for your hair as salon-style products. Consider packing travel-size bottles of your favorite shampoo and conditioner. If they do not make travel versions, consider buying reusable, travel-sized bottles for your product. You can find these easily online or in your pharmacy’s travel needs section. Dry shampoo comes in travel sizes as well. Consider picking one up for easy use in the hotel.

Swimming in the Pool or at the Beach

Many commercial beaches and pools have outdoor showers nearby for a quick rinse. Before going for a swim, soak your hair at the outdoor shower. This helps prepare the hair by saturating your locks. This limits the intake of pool chemicals or saltwater that your hair will take on. When you get out, visit the outdoor shower again. A thorough rinse can help remove the chemicals or salt. You should still do a proper wash back at your hotel later.

International Travel and Styling Tools

When traveling to another country, research which plug type they use. In America, we use the Type A & Type B, which are generally rated for 120 Volts. Depending on where you are going, you may see any of up to 15 different plug types. These plugs can range in different amperages and voltages. While there are plug converters commercially available, these may not be as safe for use on your styling tools. Some higher-end styling tools may come with a dual-voltage switch and a second wire. But unless you travel between the same regions frequently, this may be overkill for your daily hair dryer. Consider researching the hotel you are staying at, and if they offer a blow dryer in the room. For other heat styling tools, you may need to go without or invest in one that offers multiple voltage options.

Visit Your Stylist Before You Go

One of the best ways to care for your hair for a vacation is to go to the salon before you go. A fresh cut can reduce frizziness and trim away split ends. We recommend seeing your stylist about a week before your trip. This can give you time to adapt to your new routine and style.
